The Isle of Wight

Firstly we highly recommend the Isle of Wight, located just a short ferry trip across the shore from sunny Portsmouth. It’s perfect for socking up the coasts fresh air and you’ll be rewarded with breath-taking scenery, beautiful long sandy beaches and quaint villages to explore.

One of the best places to eat is Thompson’s Restaurant, an absolute must-visit for foodie’s, with fresh and local cusines served up with a choice of fantastic wines and outstanding service.

WHERE TO STAY: After your meal we highly recommend that you stay at the Hambrough’s Hotel, in one of their seven boutique bedrooms, which are all individually decorated to give that extra personal touch. The hotel is located in Ventnor, a former fishing village in the south of the island. A double room starts from £170 including breakfast.

The Peak District

PeakDistrict

We also highly recommend the Peak District, located just a 90 minute train journey from London, making it the perfect place to escape to the country without travelling too far.

There are at least three stately homes in the region to wander around including Chatsworth House, the residence of the Duke of Devonshire and the home of fiction character Mr. Darcy in the most recent film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Inside the house is a wealth of art ranging from Old Masters to contemporary works. In addition, there are impressive collections of wonderful artworks including Neoclassical sculpture.

One of the best places to stay is Breadsall Priory hotel, which offers a wide variety of spacious rooms in a luxurious setting. The hotel itself is bursting with over 700 years of history including facts about one of it’s former owners, Charles Darwin’s family. Surrounded by stunning gardens, the hotel has a relaxing spa, full size golf course, pool and fitness centre to relax in after long walks in the country.
