Greek Islands to visit this summer

May 10, 2016

Summer is around the corner so we listed the top three greek islands to visit this summer. Whether you’re looking for sandy beaches, unspoiled island life or history and culture, here is what we picked for you:

1)  BEST FOR BEACHES: ZAKYNTHOS

SPIAGGIA

The Ionian Islands can’t be beaten for sandy beaches backed by dramatic coastlines. Myrtos Beach on Kefalonia and Porto Katsiki on Lefkada are among the most photogenic, but Shipwreck Bay on Zakythos (only accessible by boat) trumps them both, even if it does get a bit crowded.

2)  BEST FOR HISTORY AND CULTURE: DELOS

delos

The birthplace of Apollo, according to mythology, Delos boasts some of the most extensive remains from the golden Hellenistic age of classical Greece. The entire island  which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site – consists of ruins, which have been systematically unearthed since 1872, including temples, statues, mosaics and a theatre.

3) BEST FOR VIEW: SANTORINI

santorini

Santorini is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic eruption that destroyed the earliest settlements on a formerly single island, and created the current geological caldera. The two main sources of wealth  in Santorini are agriculture and tourism. Over the last years Santorini has been voted as one of the most  beautiful islands in the world. Santorini remains the home of a small, but flourishing wine industry.
