As the recent cold weather has kindly reminded us, Autumn is definitely on its way. With this in mind, we’ve pulled together the top new cultural fixes to help you through the final few months of 2014.
An exciting new exhibition is coming to The Saatchi Gallery this Autumn. Mademoiselle Privé will showcase Chanel’s haute couture collection, including pieces designed exclusively for the exhibition by Karl Lagerfeld. Also on show will be the High Jewellery ‘Bijoux de Diamants’ collection created in 1932 and the iconic Chanel No.5 fragrance. Promising an ‘enchanting journey’ through Chanel’s history up to the present day, this is one exhibition not to be missed. This is an un-ticketed event and admission is free so expect crowds!
Saatchi Gallery, SW1. 13th Oct – 1st Nov.
The National Portrait Gallery has turned its attention to Audrey Hepburn for Autumn. ‘Portraits of an Icon’ is a selection of more than seventy images that define a 20th century icon. With work from the likes of Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Terry O’Neill, Norman Parkinson and Irving Penn alongside vintage magazine covers, this is a must-see for all fans of timeless beauty and style.
National Portrait Gallery, W1. Until Oct 18th.
There’s plenty to see at your local independent cinema this season too. If you haven’t already, we recommend you catch Iris, a documentary by the late Albert Maysles about Iris Apfel, the flamboyantly-dressed octogenarian New Yorker (selected cinemas only). Johnny Depp is unrecognisable as Whitey Bulger, the real life FBI informant who takes down a Mafia family taking over his turf, in Black Mass, out Sept 25th.
